Oleksandr Svishchov took part in the celebration of the 134th anniversary of the Library of the Shevchenko Scientific Society
Lviv hosted celebrations on the occasion of the 134th anniversary of the founding of the Library of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, an institution that became the first national scientific library in Ukraine and played a significant role in shaping the Ukrainian scientific tradition.
The event was attended by the President of the Ukrainian Water Polo Federation, philanthropist and public figure Oleksandr Svishchov. Together with scientists, representatives of the cultural environment and philanthropists, he joined the celebration of the historic date, which is of particular importance for Ukrainian science and culture.
During the celebrations, Vasyl Fershtey, Director General of the Vasyl Stefanyk Lviv National Scientific Library of Ukraine, emphasized that the modern library is the historical successor of the Library of the Shevchenko Scientific Society. The decision of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, adopted in 2025, was of particular importance for securing this continuity.
The event featured a presentation of new scholarly publications on the history of Ukraine, Ukrainian cartography, journalism, and literature. These works are intended not only to preserve the scientific heritage, but also to make it accessible to modern researchers, teachers and students.
Oleksandr Svishchov’s participation in such events is a continuation of his longstanding support of educational, cultural, and scientific projects. The philanthropist believes that investments in science and culture are of strategic importance for the development of the state, especially in the face of modern challenges.
The organizers of the event thanked all the benefactors who support the library’s research and publishing initiatives, emphasizing that it is thanks to such cooperation that large-scale projects are implemented and the unique Ukrainian heritage is preserved for future generations.
