Oleksandr Svishchov: regional development is the key to the future of water polo in Ukraine

President of the Water Polo Federation of Ukraine Oleksandr Svishchov emphasizes that the current season is not only about results, but also about the restoration and strategic development of the sport in the country.

The Ukrainian water polo championships today demonstrate two important trends. The first is the stability of the leading clubs, which form a quality benchmark for the entire league. The second is the gradual return of regional teams, which expands the geography and increases competition.

In the Men’s Super League, the dominance of Dynamo Lviv looks natural, but it is much more important that the competition for the top spots is becoming more and more intense. The teams are showing progress, and the matches are characterized by a high level of tension and quality of play.

Svishchov pays special attention to clubs from eastern Ukraine. Despite the difficult conditions, they have not only preserved their schools but also continue to develop. Kharkiv has already regained its status as one of the water polo centers, while other regions are gradually integrating into the national system.

In the women’s championship, the return of teams from Kharkiv and Donetsk regions was an important signal. This not only strengthens the tournament competition, but also creates a foundation for the development of young athletes.

“We see each team not only as a participant in the championship, but as an element of a unified training system. It is the regions that shape the future of the national team,” Svishchov said.

According to him, the Federation’s strategy is to support clubs, develop children’s and youth sports, and create conditions for stable growth of competition.

The current season is already showing the first results of this work: the intensity of matches is growing, the talent pool is expanding, and the championships are becoming more balanced.

As a result, Ukrainian water polo is moving to the stage of systemic development, where not only leaders play a key role, but also the restoration of a full-fledged regional structure.
