Oleksandr Svishchov: Sport is the education of the spirit of winners

For the first time in 9 years, the Ukrainian tennis championship was held in the Lviv region. Competitions took place from December 12 to 24 in two age categories: among children up to 14 years old and among adults. One hundred twenty-five tennis players from Ukraine competed in three categories: singles, doubles and mixed.Holding the championship in Lviv for the first time since 2013 was made possible thanks to the partnership of business and the state. Real estate corporation “Riel”, mineral water “Truskavetska”, and the company “Lviv Croissants” acted as general partners. This partnership, in order to support and develop Ukrainian tennis, was established in the Memorandum of Cooperation. The Tennis Federation of Ukraine signed it with the LEOLAND complex, on whose courts the competitions took place.

Oleksandr Svishchov, an investor in the LEOLAND project, noted that the implementation of this project coincided with turbulent times for our country. Nevertheless, it was opened in September of this year. The complex has six modern critical courts for training with a total area of more than 3000 m, certified in the “Premium” category.

“The simpler decision was to expect victory. But we decided not to wait but to continue working, providing jobs and creating a centre of the world for the people of Lviv so that they would have the opportunity to distract themselves, at least for a while and do sports. For us, the development of tennis both in Lviv and in Ukraine, in general, is a continuation of our decision to work under any conditions. Now we can provide our courts and the entire infrastructural complex for the maintenance of TFU (Tennis Federation of Ukraine) because we believe that sports are the best not only for training the body but also for educating the spirit, the spirit of winners,” recalled Oleksandr Svishchov.

Summarising the results of the championship, Rostyslav Melnyk, a member of the praesidium of the Tennis Federation of Ukraine, noted: “This championship opened up new names to us in national tennis, demonstrated the potential that we should support and develop so that Ukrainian tennis players climb the podiums of important world tournaments as often as possible.”

In the women’s final, Anastasia Zaparyniuk from Lviv, the champion of Ukraine in the under-18 doubles category, and Alina Baranovska from Kyiv, who won 11 all-Ukrainian tournaments and 9 European ones during her career, met. The representative of Kyiv gained the victory.
