“I am happy to say that the women’s water polo championship has started. Unfortunately, it was not possible to assemble a full team because many players are abroad. We would like to increase the number of teams, but the objective realities in our country put their limitations. We are actively working to preserve and develop women’s water polo in Ukraine. I am confident that after Ukraine wins the championship, the sport will flourish and water polo will rise to a higher level,” says Oleksandr Svishchov, President of the Ukrainian Water Polo Federation.

“I am happy with two victories, but I wish for more teams and exciting games. The preparation was difficult, many players came without pre-tournament training. This did not contribute to proper preparation, but I am satisfied with the result. We got the maximum number of points in this round, which leaves me grateful to all the girls,” – summarizes the results of the first round, the head coach of water polo club Dynamo Amazons Lviv, Yevhen Skyba.

Mikhail Lebedev

“From the very beginning of September, we have been purposefully preparing for this tournament. Although we entered the final stage of preparation in good shape, 90% of the players fell ill at the training camp and had a high fever. Our goal was to keep the players healthy, so we played to the best of our abilities,” – says Mykhailo Lebedev, head coach of the Kyiv national team.

“Two losses, the game with Lviv was particularly bad, but we fought with the Kyiv team and lost by only one goal. Three players played with a fever. Our team trains away from home, which can affect our performance. There are three more rounds ahead, we are striving for a higher place, we are currently in third place. I am grateful to the girls for their dedication and for maintaining the team’s unity even in difficult times. I am also grateful to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to participate in the Ukrainian championship,” – said the head coach of the Donetsk Oblast team, Serhiy Ryabchenko.
