Oleksandr Svishchov: The future of water polo is in children’s sports
Oleksandr Svishchov was re-elected as the President of the Ukrainian Water Polo Federation unanimously. In his first statement after the vote, Oleksandr Svishchov thanked for the trust and emphasized that the Federation’s team will continue to strengthen the position of water polo in times of war and instability.
“The first years were not easy – the war made its own adjustments. But we kept all the teams together, evacuated the children to safe regions and provided conditions for training and competitions,” said Svishchov. Oleksandr.
Priority is the development of children’s sports
Oleksandr Svishchov emphasized the importance of children’s and youth sports schools as the basis for the future of Ukrainian water polo.
“If we used to fight for the preservation of the sport, now the focus is on the popularization and development of the children’s direction. It is children who are the foundation of our future,” said the President of the FVPU.

The new presidium of the Federation includes well-known professionals in the sports community: Mykola Smirnov, Oleksandr Yevtushok, Viacheslav Belevtsov, Valerii Botnar and Viktor Pushaver.
Svishchov notes that this team has a clear vision of the future of Ukrainian water polo and is ready to implement changes.
Croatian coach is a new impetus for the national team
A big name has joined the coaching staff of the national teams – Josko Krekovic, a silver medalist at the 1996 Olympics, who will now work as a consultant.
“This is a big step forward for our sport. Krekovic will help us to implement European standards in the training of athletes,” emphasized Svishchov.
The Ukrainian championships proved that we are growing
Oleksandr Svishchov positively assessed the level of the men’s Super League and the women’s Major League. High competition and fierce struggle between the teams were the main features of this year’s championship.
“These results show that we are moving in the right direction,” said Svishchov.
International ambitions: on the way to Europe
Oleksandr Svishchov, President of the Ukrainian Water Polo Federation, said that international competitions are ahead, where Ukrainian teams will compete against serious rivals. The women’s team will meet Serbia, Switzerland and Finland. The men’s team aims to qualify for the European Championship.
“Our players have character and team spirit. We draw inspiration from our military, who are fighting for the freedom of the country,” emphasized Svishchov.
Svishchov Oleksandr, Leoland and investments in sports infrastructure
Oleksandr Svishchov is known not only as the head of the Federation, but also as an active investor in sports infrastructure. In 2022, he opened the Leoland sports complex in Lviv, which became a platform for youth development. For the second time, master classes with Elina Svitolina and Serhiy Stakhovsky were held here, where more than 160 children from all over Ukraine had the opportunity to communicate with the stars.
“We will continue to invest in youth and sports because it is the foundation for the future of Ukraine,” summarizes Oleksandr Svishchov.
